STAQ Succeeds at Niagara Open Championships!

What a great 2024 Niagara Open Championship in Webster! Nearly every swimmer went at least one lifetime best!

Our swimmers' new PRs included: Aidan Clark in 200 backstroke and 50 free; Shawn De Pedro in 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 breaststroke; Mark Hong in 100 breaststroke and 100 free; Derek Guo in the 200 breaststroke and 100 IM; Marvin Reimsnyder in the 100 IM; Erika Liu in 100 free; Gabby Janeski in the 100 breaststroke making it back in the C finals and placing 22nd, as well as the 100 free, 100 fly, and 50 free; Shoonfon Li in the 200 backstroke winning a gold medal and also placing 8th overall in the 100 breaststroke with nearly a PR, both Speedo Sectionals qualifying times; Katherine McKane in the 100 breaststroke and making it back to the A final placing 8th overall and achieving a Speedo Sectional cut time.

Additionally, Shoonfon Li made it back to finals in the 100 fly placing 24th, 200 breaststroke earning a bronze medal, 200 freestyle placing 8th, and 100 backstroke placing 5th! Katherine McKane placed 10th in the 200 breaststroke, 14th in the 100 IM, 13th in the 200 IM, and 19th in the 400 IM!

Our relays made a strong showing as well! The Mixed 200 Free Relay of Shawn De Pedro, Katherine McKane, Gabby Janeski and Shoonfon Li placed 16th; The Boys 200 Medley relay of Shoonfon Li, Derek Guo, Shawn De Pedro and Aidan Clark placed 19th overall; the Boys 400 Freestyle Relay of Liam Gill, Shawn De Pedro, Derek Guo and Shoonfon Li placed 21st overall; the Girls 200 Medley Relay of Katherine McKane, Erika Liu, Gabby Janeski and Maria Kuksenkova placed 23rd overall; The Boys 400 Medley Relay of Aidan Clark, Shoonfon Li, Marvin Reimsnyder and Derek Guo placed 20th overall! Great racing!

Our senior team worked incredibly hard every day to achieve some amazing results this past weekend. Their success is beyond words! And the best part was the athletes joining the Coaches to cheer on their teammates throughout the whole meet, as well as finding the time to make some silly memories! Great energy on the deck for this team, and lots of phenomenal swimming.
