STAQ Swimmers Shine at NYS Section IV Championships

STAQ Swimmers shined at the NYPHSAA Section IV Class A Championship, held in on February 14, 2024 in Ernie Davis Natatorium (prelims) and February 17, 2024 at Watkins Glen High School (finals). The boys’ varsity teams from Binghamton, Corning-Painted Post, Elmira, Horseheads, Ithaca, Vestal and Union Endicott competed for the Sectional Championship Title, with Horseheads advancing to the first place and Corning-Painted Post coming in as a runner-up.

A Horseheads high school senior and STAQ swimmer Shoonfon Li won each of his individual events with the state qualifying times of 1:55.33 in 200 IM and 58.89 in 100 breast earnings 40 points for the Horseheads boys varsity swim team. He has also helped the Horseheads 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams claim first places.

All STAQ Swimmers competing for the Corning-Painted Post boys varsity team proceeded to the finals hitting the qualifying times for the 2024 Niagara Gold Championship to be held on March 8-10, 2024 at the Webster Aquatics Center:

Jack Casper – was seventh in 200 free with the time of 2:03.06 and sixth in 500 free at 5:31.71 earnings 25 points for the team.

Aidan Clark – came in eighth in 200 free at 2:05.23 and fourth in 100 back at 1:00.46 earning 26 points for the team.

Joey Crisco – won a bronze medal in each of his events - 200 free at 1:53.37 and 500 free at 5:10.71 earning 32 points for the team.

Shawn DePedro – took a bronze medal in 200 IM at 2:11.49 and was fourth in 100 breast at 1:04.06 earning 31 points for the team.

Derek Guo – was fifth in 200 IM at 2:17.39 and sixth in 100 breast at 1:08.40 earnings 27 points for the team.

John McKane – was eleventh in 100 fly at 1:08.75 and thirteenth in 100 back at 1:07.64 earning 10 points for the team.

Marvin Reimsnyder – took a bronze medal in 50 free at 22.43 and a silver medal in 100 fly at 55.21 earnings 33 points for the team.

JP Sierzant – was fourth in 50 free at 23.21 and third in 100 free at 50.72 earnings 31 points for the team.

The team of JP Sierzant, Marvin Reimsnyder, Joey Crisco and Shawn DePedro took a silver medal in the 400 free relay with the time of 3:24.52.
